Definition of SD Cards

Secure Digital memory (SD Cards) is a Digital Media Storage devise and is also a tpe of Flash memory Format. These cards are often used in Digital Media Applications to save data (i.e. Photos, Videos or Documents) and Audio Files. There are many devices that make use of the SD Cards for example: Sat Nav’s, Digital Camera’s, MP3/MP4 Players, Camcorders and so forth.

SD cards have been developed on the based on the similar but older version of the Multi Media card format, otherwise know as MMC. The SD card can have the added option of Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption. This feature is intended to safe guard stored data (like Audio Files) against piracy (i.e Memory card to memory card copying)

 

From a physical look and feel perceptive the MMC card is slightly thicker than that of the SD card. Also the SD card often comes with an optional write-protection tab to protect the user from those accidental deletions. Some SD card models have the extra added benefit where the SD card itself is just the adapters to that of the Mini SD card where the Mini SD card can be used in most mobile phones and GPS systems.
